Writing the Land Featured at First Fridays at Library of Virginia

Capital Region Land Conservancy and The Nature Conservancy are excited to partner with the Library of Virginia on its upcoming First Fridays event on Friday, April 4, 2025 from 5:00pm – 8:00pm.

Featuring the theme of Virginia Stories: Flora & Fauna, this special event will showcase readings from the Writing the Land: Virginia poetry anthology. Poets representing CRLC and featured this evening are Tara Bray, Dr. Hollee Freeman, Joanna Lee, and Darlene Anita Scott.

Additional activities happening throughout the evening include a special exhibition by Virginia artists, flower origami and in the makerspace, refreshments, and opportunities to explore the Virginia Shop and the current exhibition “Mapping the Commonwealth, 1816–1826.”

Poetry readings from Writing the Land: Virginia will occur from 6:00pm – 7:30pm in the Conference Room off the lobby.

Copies of the book can be purchased in advance through CRLC and picked up the night of the event or purchased at the Library of Virginia’s The Virginia Shop.

The Writing the Land: Virginia anthology is project of NatureCulture and celebrates the beauty and value of conserved lands of all kinds from across the Commonwealth of Virginia, including public wildlife management areas, conservation easements, city and riverside trails, park systems and shoreline farms. Each chapter contains poems, illustrations, photographs and information on properties from land conservation organizations or Indigenous tribes.
