$5 – $15Guided Hike: Brown & Williamson Conservation Area – REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED-EVENT SOLD OUT!
Friday, February 16, 2024
1:00pm – 4:00pm
On Friday, February 16, venture with us to the Brown & Williamson Conservation Area to learn about the natural landscape and the conservation easement that protects it through a guided hike led by Chesterfield County Naturalist, Mark Battista, and CRLC Land Stewardship Manager, Ashley Moulton.
ABOUT THE AREA
The 262-acre Brown and Williamson Conservation Area in Chesterfield County provides prime foraging habitat for bald eagles and contains a 20-acre lake which provides critical habitat for migratory waterfowl. The landscape is a mixture of mature upland forest, steep slopes, slow-flowing stream bottom land, and stable bluffs overlooking the James River.
ABOUT THE HIKE
The hike will consist of an approximately 2 to 2 1/2 mile amble throughout the property. We’ll find evidence of how the land was used in recent history and explore a varied landscape including bluffs, examples of headward erosion, a vernal pool, seep, and a confined oak and heath community atop the bluff. And of course, we’ll be on the lookout for eagles!
There are no specific trails so participants must be comfortable on uneven terrain in flat and hilly woods. Participants should wear comfortable sturdy hiking shoes or boots, and bring water and a light snack if desired.
To ensure everyone’s safety, registration is limited to 15 attendees.
