Summer Wildflower Tour at Varina LandLab Copy
September 12, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Join Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC) and the Virginia Native Plant Society (VNPS) Pocahontas Chapter for a guided summer wildflower tour at the Varina LandLab in eastern Henrico. The tour will be led by Ashley Moulton, CRLC Land Stewardship Manager, VNPS Statewide Publicity Chair, and local Pocahontas chapter member. The wildflower tour will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Explore grasslands that were recently burned using prescribed fire and a conserved riparian buffer along Four Mile Creek. Please meet Ashley at Entrance #2 (see map), so the group can condense cars before we head to Entrance #1 which has limited parking. Walk will consist of exploring the Wildflower meadow and the Loop Trail, about 1.5 miles in total. Bring sunscreen, water, and a hat; beware of ticks and chiggers. Varina LandLab is located at 9200 Deep Bottom Rd, Richmond, but please note that this address (and Google Maps) will take you to Entrance #3.
There is a suggested $5 donation to CRLC per person for visiting the Varina LandLab – you can donate at CRLC’s website or via Venmo @capitalregionlandconservancy
Also, if you are available before the walk and want a behind the scenes experience, consider volunteering with Ashley to count trees in preparation of a future tree planting and helping to remove some Japanese Hops and Japanese Stiltgrass along the James River. This additional volunteer opportunity will be held at Entrance #3 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
