Conserving Timberlands in Eastern Henrico
An eastern Henrico County landowner, Randy Welch, recorded his third easement in the region on nearly 72 acres of land in the Varina District of Henrico in December 2019. This land adds to the combined 352 acres on Deep Bottom Road that he previously placed under similar easements and subsequently donated to CRLC. The Capital Region Land Conservancy and the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District worked together and co-hold this easement on Saxby Road.
The Saxby Road property safeguards 56 acres of important farmland soils. Capital Region Land Conservancy and the Henricopolis Soil and Water Conservation District were eager to protect the conservation values on this property in an area so vulnerable to suburban growth.
