BioBlitz at Varina LandLab

You can be a community scientist! Join Capital Region Land Conservancy and Sierra Club Falls of the James Group for our first BioBlitz at the Varina LandLab conservation area on Saturday, April 29th at 10:00 am – 12:00 pm!
A “bioblitz” is an activity where volunteers work together to find and identify a as many species as possible in a specific place within a short period of time. Help us identify plants, insects, birds, and other wildlife across this conservation area using the Seek by iNaturalist app. Learn how we can use this data to better care for the land and wildlife.

This event is also part of the 2023 City Nature Challenge, a global event to celebrate nature and document biodiversity in urban areas around the world, happening April 28th – May 1st. Last year, over 67,000 people participated around the world and collected nearly 1.7 million observations! You can participate by joining an event, setting up a classroom activity, or getting outside on your own:
