Guided Hike: Brown & Williamson Conservation Area

January 24 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

$5 – $15

Join us on January 20th to learn about the natural landscapes of the Brown & Williamson Conservation Area through a guided hike led by Chesterfield County Naturalist, Mark Battista, and CRLC Land Conservation Manager, Jane Myers.

Purchase your ticket here.

The 262-acre Brown and Williamson Conservation Area (B & W) in Chesterfield County provides prime foraging habitat for bald eagles and contains a 20-acre lake which provides critical habitat for migratory waterfowl. The landscape is a mixture of mature upland forest, steep slopes, slow-flowing stream bottom land, and stable bluffs overlooking the James River.

The hike will consist of an approximately 2 to 2 1/2 mile amble through and around the property. There are no trails so participants must be very comfortable on uneven terrain in flat and hilly woods. Participants should wear comfortable sturdy hiking shoes or boots and bring water and a light snack if desired.

To ensure everyone’s safety, headcount for all CRLC hikes is limited to 15 participants, not including our two guides. We will be observing strict social distancing norms throughout all portions of the hike. Even though will be outdoors, we request that participants have masks or face coverings on their person, since we will be hiking in a line for portions of the time.

We will meet at the WAWA at 600 E Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23836 to caravan to the property. Meet at 12:45 departing promptly at 1:00 for the property. Return to Wawa by 4:15.

Purchase your ticket here.

Tickets must be purchased to participate in guided hikes. Non-members must purchase a ticket of $15 and members a ticket of $5. Members include all donors of the last twelve months to CRLC. To become a member, please visit our donation page below, or include a donation in your checkout process.
