Protecting the View that Named Richmond

Capital Region Land Conservancy (CRLC), in partnership with The Conservation Fund, James River Association, and City of Richmond, acquired the properties located at 3011 and 3021 Dock Street in the City of Richmond in August 2021. While the likely development of this land could have obscured the iconic view of the James River from Libby Hill that gave Richmond its name, this property has been secured for generations to come. This exciting land acquisition will create one contiguous publicly accessible riverfront space and allow for the completion of the Virginia Capital Trail. It will also expand city-owned parkland in Richmond’s East End and enable the establishment of new river access and environmental education programs. You can read more about the project from the project announcement and partnership here.

In July 2023, the Dock Street property was permanently protected under a conservation easement co-held by CRLC and the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and transfer to the City of Richmond. You can read more about this major accomplishment here.
