From Country Club to Conservation
Where the River’s Bend Golf Course once operated from 1991 until 2015, now is a natural area protected under a conservation easement by Capital Region Land Conservancy. After the business declared bankruptcy, the 180-acre property, which was formerly the 18-hole golf course, could have been developed into a dense residential subdivision with an additional 100-homes built along the James River. In December 2017, the property’s owner at the time, Riversbend Land LLC, protected the 180 acres, including wetlands, views, and one mile of James River shoreline with a conservation easement held by CRLC. CRLC offers access to the property through annual guided hikes.
