Growing Access to the James River Park

Buttermilk Trail is an essential part of the James River Park Trail loop that Men’s Journal named one of the best in the country in 2021. While the majority of the park is protected under a CRLC co-held conservation easement, protection of a crucial 0.3 mile section of the Buttermilk West Trail that ran through private property had been uncertain. In 2022, Josh and Carrie Belt Rogers took the ultimate step to protect public access to this trail when they donated almost 3.5 acres containing this section of trails to CRLC for protection and public access.

The property will be added into the James River Park System conservation easement upon transfer to the City of Richmond. This action is another step towards implementing the James River Park Master Plan by increasing the acreage of the park.
